Please don't take away my legs..

Venue: Sheng Siong Supermarket
Attire: Homewear

Am at the supermarket my Dad, Mom and relatives.. spotted the poor frogs all waiting to die at the fish tank.. some of them were stacking on top of each other, as if they were planning to escape from their otherwised ill-fated destiny.
I remembered treating Dad & Mom over dinner after getting my pay at a Chinese restaurant many yrs back.
I ordered 2 dishes of frog legs. Dad looked disturbed.. said it was cruel eating frog legs and shook his head. After which, i felt guilty for the longest time and swore off eating them ever again.

Imagine frogs being captured and killed just for their legs and their handicapped carcasses lying around in a heap.
Frogs are a delicacy particularly popular in Chinese and French cuisine. The most common way to capture bullfrogs is by gigging. But do you ever wander how they catch them frogs for years?
Giggers use flashlights to search for the frogs and blind them. Stunned by the light, the bullfrog sits still as the gigger carefully approaches, aims, and thrusts a spear through the frog. The spear is commonly referred to as a gig, and generally has three to five prongs arranged in a trident fashion, allowing for multiple prongs to pierce the frog and retrieve it.
Thou there are farms rearing frogs for food but still, it's not in our staple diet (e.g: monkey brain)so why eat them just for their legs? I may be no vegetarian but i just feel that we don't have to eat them..

Some pictures for you to digest..

A Damsel in Distress

Venue: Pasir Panjang=>A handful of stars tossed into the sky
Attire: White/Blue Striped Dress

Feels like i'm in the mood for Satay tonight so we headed down to Pasir Panjang food centre for some local delights. Nevermind that the uncle mistook my order of pork satay to chicken cos we still had mutton flavour!

I was contented chomping them down when i saw from the corner of my eye, something big and dark brown crawling out from the gap from the brown-tiled flooring.

The big brown cockroach made its appearance.. its feelers were swirling left + right menancingly. I held my breath and told myself to keep calm but that big brown thing decided to head towards our table. I jumped out from my seat and took cover two tables away, with a satay stick in my hand and its meat 1/2 eaten..

Mr Pest Buster: "What?!?"
Val: "Cockroach!!!"
Mr Pest Buster: "Where?!?"
*I peered below the table-OMG*
Val: "In between ur legs!!!"

*Piak*

Suddenly i felt a sense of security. Hee hee

Cos he stamped on the cockroach. I tot the roach's head looked twisted. So "Man!!!" *cheers* However, he kicked it in front of him-where i was standing. AAAArgh!!!

I ran to the table at the side..this time, all the diners from the other tables were giggling.. *blushes*

The cockroach got away.. i sat there, still paranoid till he suggested shifting nearer to the stalls.. couldn't quite enjoy the stingray after that. Kept looking at the gap where the cockroach came from. Maybe there's a colony underneath like at Joe's Apartment.. *shudders*

The stars came out tonight. Really pretty. Wondering if i'll ever get to see the Milky Way.

The Milky Way is simply the common name for the galaxy that encompasses our solar system. The phrase Milky Way came from the band of white light that can be seen across the celestial sphere visible from Earth. This celestial sphere contains a host of various stars and other solar matter. The discovery of the Milky Way is credited to the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus, who was the first person in recorded history to make the assumption that the Milky Way existed and was made up of billions of distant stars.

I remembered once taking the longer route here to the car and the lighting-up of candles question..

Starry starry night..

They don't see the good in you

A good friend of mine is recently going through a rough patch. Am bit worried about him but yet i cannot be there for him, being separated across the seas.

He's a nice, caring guy and a perfect gentleman. I'd say: "Even if them all didn't work out in the past, it's because they don't see the good in you." Be strong..

"If your love does not work with that person, it just means that someone else loves you more."

I wonder how you sleep at night..

What does your sleeping position says about you? Read on!

1) Foetus
Those who curl up in the foetus position are tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. Most common sleeping position

2) Log
Lying on your side with both arms down by your side. These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd. They trust strangers and may be gullible.

3) Yearner
People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to be open, but can be suspicious + cynical. Slow to make up their minds, but once they have made a decision, they are not likely to change it.

4) Soldier
Lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides. Quiet and reserved. They don't like a fuss, but set high standards for themselves and others.

5) Freefall
Lying on your front with your hands around the pillow, and your head turned to one side. Often gregarious and brash but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath. Don't like criticism, or extreme situations.

6) Starfish
Lying on your back with both arms up around the pillow. Make good friends because they are always ready to listen and offer help if need be. Don't like to be the centre of attention.
Finally some truth for my friends to believe that I am very much the quiet type though they may be protesting now with placards and banners. But they do know that i'm reserved :p

"Valerie and her Man from Mars"

From reading my blog, a friend said that i should consider freelance writing for magazines, typically travel magazines ..

But i would much rather wax lyrical on love, dreams, or write about happy and heart-wenching issues. So i prolly do better writing for a girly magazine, or a trashy novel. Maybe people will treasure their loved ones more after being touched by my search for love-pure and simple but what came along were the hurdles and heartbreaks.

Since there is "Rachel getting married", i'll name the novel "Valerie is attached!" or Valerie and her "Man from Mars". A story about how i always end up falling for the wrong type of guy(one who never reciprocates) until the day i find the guy of my dreams.

I know i prolly scare off guys with my ideals and interpretations on love, fundamentals of a good relationship and the thought of settling down. But i guess, if the guy really likes me or thinks that i am The One, he prolly won't run miles (away)

A penny for your thoughts.

Once a beach girl

Once a beach girl
I'll roam Sentosa on Saturdays and Sundays
Under the clear blue sky
With no worries of the world
But my love of the Volleyball
Had the sun in my porcelain face
My fair complexion turned a bronzy gold
I missed the sand in my toes
The wind in my hair
Once a beach girl, i was..

The Jog to Recovery from home to Holland V

Attire: Grey Singlet
Bottom: NIKE shorts

Just came back from jogging to Holland Village.. was surprised that i was keeping up all the way to Dover, Buona Vista MRTs till i reached Holland.. the slope was quite a feat. Pressed on till i reach Starbucks..

The thing i like about such vigourous exercise is that you really get to clear your mind, not think about anything but the destination. Maybe you do think about unhappy stuff, but eventually as you push yourself further, everything starts to appear more positive! Your mind & body detox and purifies with the endorphines making you feel good, working out and towards the finishing line.

Am preparing myself for the Adidas Sundown Womens' 10 km run.

Forgot that i was supposed to abstain from cold liquids for a week.. the pain started erupting at Cold Storage. Grabbed Arnott's Bacon & Cheese biscuits and headed home..

*Home*

Luckily there were some Pink Panadols left.. phew!
