Joo Siah Bak Koot Teh is located @ Blk 347 Jurong East Ave 1#01-220 Yuehua Market & Hawker Centre.

Yes, they call themselves Bak Koot Teh. It ain' a typo. Bak Kut Teh肉骨茶is believed to have originated from China. In Singapore, there is typically two types of BKT. The Teochew BKT ha a light colour and uses more pepper in the soup. The Cantonese BKT medicinal herbs to create a stronger flavoured soup.

Smoked Mackerel & Stout Party

Feeling stony after last night's birthday party but we are gathered today again for the "SMS" party. SMS stands for Smoked Mackerel & Stout Party lol.

Smoked Mackerel bought from Amsterdam. Thanks Alex! The Mackerel feeds near the surface and has a high levels of lipid in their flesh so that have a non-white colour, often referred as "fatty" or "oil rich". Mackerel contains Omega 3 which help protect against heart disease, cancer, depression, dementia and inflammation relating to arthritis. Taking 1 or 2 portions of oily fish in a week will be sufficient to gain the benefits of Omega 3 fats.

The flesh is moist. Lovely! Alex brought some of his home-made Stout as well. Pity I didn't know how to appreciate..

What are you like when drunk?

Am @ Winebar to celebrate one of the girl's birthday. Sight of the yuppies makes me think of the days where i would be so conscious about myself and my behaviour when i am at a club.

I will take effort to make sure i look inside and outside. I'll wear a skirt/dress, carry a little bag big enough to put my camera, cell, cash/cards, lip gloss and small enough not to have to put it in a locker.

It would take quite a few drinks to get me a little light headed before I have the guts to hit the dancefloor.

These days, it's be just me and my friends. That is, if i were ever have to visit a club. Tired of the night scene, the prowlers, eyes devouring you as you make your way around the club. Punks. Wannabes. Men trying to get lucky with you.

I'll choose a nice secluded place anytime, somewere with a good band. Deserted. Even unheard of.

Tonight, I am making my appearance @ Winebar, Zouk for the sake of my girl pal on her special day- birthday. Daniel recommended that we order Snow White & the seven dwarfs for her; Xf. "Snow white and the seven dwarfs" consists of a beer and 7 shooters. Smells like thinner. Prolly tastes like thinner too. Was quite put of by the smell when i held the shooter to get a whiff. I was so glad not to be the one turning a yr older.

Xf is a great drinker! Drank it all within 2 hrs. And still looking sober. Only a little aggressive with the f word and middle finger popping out every now & then.

What are you like when you are drunk? Some people laugh a lot more. Ppl like me. I'm a happy drunk. Some get violent. Some get fresh. Some just zz.. Others even cry! I wouldn't want to get anywhere near the ones who cry.

They say "A man's true character comes out when he's drunk" . So, what are you like when drunk? Hmm..

"Hi, is this Valerie?"
"Yes?"
"Ur item is ready for collection."
"What item?"
" You ordered the item, you don't remember?"
"WHAT ITEM?!?"
"Your vibrator."
"Huh!!! R U JOKING?!?"
"Oh, maybe your friend bought for you as a present. It's ok.."
*he puts down the phone*

Shit!!! If this is some kinda sick joke by my friend, i am deeply offended! ..............

Phone rings again during Tornado.

"Hey Valerie, what are you doing?"
I did not recognise tt it was the same voice as in a day- i get up to 20 phonecalls from agents/buyers.
"Who this?"
"You don't recognise my voice?"
"WHO ARE U?"
"You dunno?"
And then i realised it's the same caller as before.
"I DON'T HAVE THE TIME FOR THIS. R U GOING TO TELL ME OR WHAT?!?"
"You .........me then i tell.."
(His voice went soft and i could not hear the entire sentence)
"WHAT?!?"
"You fuck me then i tell you.."
*stunned*
"SIAO!!!"
*slams down phone*

I was so angry i wanted to scream at him. But I remembered once reading from an article that sickos like these are usually waiting for a big reaction. It probably please them more if you were agitated/distressed.

When i was younger, i often dreamed of me finding myself in school with my bolster and I had to hide it from my classmates. Nowadays, I knocked out the moment my head hits the pillow. Dreams are rare.

I dislike Cheese Cake even more after this fried version.. I like cheese- not in a cake.

Blissful in Balestier

It was past 6 in the evening.

Got a call from buddy to go for dinner. Picked me up from office. Was tinking of where to go in the neighbourhood when i thought of Bak Kut Teh @ Balestier!

I had eaten Founder BKT once after a late night during my public relations days. The soup was bland, i remember. Decided to chcck out the another BKT @ Toa Payoh Lor 8, Blk 210 01-115. Some recommendation from the net. But when we arrived, it was closed! *screams*

Buddy had to waste the $1 coupon for nothing @ Toa Payoh- it was free parking @ Balestier after 5pm :x :x

Sorry! I did warn u that it could be closed :x I can't possibly call a stall in the market. Ain't no restaurant :x :x :x

I love Salted Veggie! It tastes bland here. You tiao not ordered by me. I always wondered why people dip you tiao into their soup. To me, it's already lao hong and soggy enough. I prefer my you tiao crispy.
Salted Veggie: 6/10
You Tiao: 3.5/10
Zhu Za Tang! The ingredients are varied. This tastes alright. I like the way they sliced the ingredients. Intestines are long enough. That thing is also BIG enough. Can't remember the name. Is it you ji? *blur* Buddy was also clueless.
Zhu Zha Tang: 8/10
Last but not least: Bak Kut Teh! Today it tastes more pepperish. We asked for more soup.. *slurps* Meat is a tad bit hard today thou.. but portion is big enough!
BKT: 6.5/10
Ambience: 6/10 (air-con was quite weak inside.. warm!)

Rating by a foodie: 6/10. Pass!!! I remembered my best friend brought me to a BKT @ Jurong East market. Tt was good and better! I shall be back soon *winks*

Daphne bought for Alex for his 30th bday from Parkway Parade ($19.90)but they are no longer selling it! Two years ago, another friend saw it in Giant.

One suggested looking @ Magic shops. Others say Peninsular Plaza

I have checked all the Giants, patronised Magic Shops (they gave me the weird look when i popped the question) and Peninsular Plaza and even Toy S' Rus.

Recently, Alex found it in Downtown East, but later said it was the smaller version so i better not buy yet.

To share, we had the Zucchinni Pancake with Goat Cheese. Aphrodisiac!!! Heavenly! I'm gonna have it everytime i'm here! Comes with bacon.. Salmon sashimi was only so-so. A funny pose to end the night.

Kinda brought back memories having worked for a media company before. Countless media parties by pubs/ restaurants/hotels and all that matter. Free food/booze. Exchanging namecards.

Too happening for the good girl in me whose idea of a great time is somewhere somewhat quiet and isolated from everyone and everything.

Nevertheless, it was great catching up with old friends.I had 2 glasses of champagne, a glass of CointreauCosmopolitan. This beer tastes weird. And i almost spit out the dangerous looking red shooter. Awful.
